COPOLYMER RESIN STUDY

August, 2002

Welcome to our second newsletter. We are pleased to share a portion of our copolymer resin study.

Today's economic climate dictates the need for increased productivity utilizing currently available raw materials and production equipment. The incorporation of a copolymer resin dramatically reduces fusion requirements of a Vinyl Plastisol; however, their use may present significant production issues.

In order to assist our clients and fulfill our intention of staying up to date on current technologies and materials, Polymer Services and Innovations conducted a study to identify the characteristics of commercially available copolymer resins, foreign and domestic. New resins continually become available; thus we felt the need for a current comparison. We have included two homopolymers, 2.05 and 2.25 RV for reference. The following charts display a portion of the data.

The RV's of the resins vary from 2.0 to 2.71. The comonomer levels range from 3% to 10%. The comonomer is generally acetate, however, others are included.

We have not attempted to classify or rank specific resins, just provide data that will allow us to quickly and inexpensively optimize the selection of a specific resin for your specific application.

The role of PS&I is to provide specific data to our clients. In order to provide maximum benefit, additional testing and data would in all probability be required. We would be happy to conduct such tests on an exclusive basis.
